  1. Mark the position of the striker on the body lock pillar using a pencil.
  2.  
  3. Use tool J-23457, BT 7107 or equivalent, remove the lock striker.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Install the striker to the body using tool J-23457, BT 7107 or equivalent. Align the striker with the pencil marks and tighten the striker bolt to 42 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  2.  
  3. If striker adjustment is necessary, proceed as follows:
    1. Make sure the door is properly aligned.
    2.  
    3. Apply modeling clay or body caulking compound to the lock bolt opening.
    4.  
    5. Close the door just enough for the striker bolt to form an impression in the clay or caulking compound.
    6.  

  4.  


NOTE
Closing the door completely will make clay removal difficult.

  1. The striker impression should be centered fore-and-aft. The minimum allowable measurement for dimension X is 3 / 32 in. (2mm). The maximum allowable measurement for dimension X is 5 / 32 in. (4mm). A 3 / 32 in. (2mm) spacer, part No. 4469196 or equivalent, can be used for alignment.
  2.  
  3. If adjustment is necessary, insert tool J-23457, BT 7107 or equivalent, into the star-shaped recess in the head of the striker and loosen the striker bolt. Shift the striker as required, then tighten the striker bolt to 42 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  4.  

  1. Touch up any exposed unpainted surface on the lock pillar next to the striker, if the striker is outside the pencil marks.
  2.  

INSIDE REMOTE HANDLE

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Center punch each rivet, then drill out the rivets using a 3 / 6 in. (4.8mm) drill bit.
  6.  
  7. Slide the remote handle rearward to disengage the tabs on the handle from the slots in the door.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Place the tabs on the handle into the slots in the door and slide the handle forward.
  2.  
  3. Secure the remote handle using 3 / 16 in. peel type rivets.
  4.  
  5. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  6.  

POwer DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the actuator linkage from the bell crank.
  6.  
  7. Use a 3 / 16 in. (4.8mm) drill bit to drill out the rivets retaining the actuator to the door.
  8.  
  9. Remove the actuator.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Attach the actuator to the door using 5 / 16 in. rivets.
  2.  
  3. Connect the actuator linkage to the bell crank.
  4.  
  5. Check for proper operation.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect all rods attached to the lock.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lock by straightening the tabs.
  8.  
  9. Remove the door ajar switch attaching screw.
  10.  
  11. Remove the door ajar switch by pushing down on the switch to disengage the lip on the switch from the lock.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
A new service lock will have a block-out plug installed. Do not operate the lock or remove the plug until the lock is installed and the rod is connected to the lock.

  1. Position the lip on the door ajar switch to the lock and push up on the switch. Install the attaching screw.
  2.  
  3. Position the lock on the door and bend the tabs over to secure.
  4.  
  5. Attach all rods that were disconnected in the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Remove the block-out plug, if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  10.  

OUTSIDE HANDLE

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rod from the outside handle.
  6.  
  7. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining screws and remove the outside handle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the outside handle and tighten the screws to 54 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Connect the rod to the handle.
  6.  
  7. If installing a new service handle, remove the block-out spring.
  8.  
  9. Check the door lock system for proper operation.
  10.  
  11. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  12.  

LOCK CYLINDER

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rod.
  6.  
  7. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Detach or reposition any wiring harnesses that are in the way.
  10.  
  11. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the lock cylinder retainer and remove the lock cylinder.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install a gasket over the lock cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Install the lock cylinder, including any wiring harnesses that may be attached.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock cylinder retainer.
  6.  
  7. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Connect or reposition any other wiring harnesses, as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Connect the rod.
  12.  
  13. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  14.  

1991-93 Deville and Fleetwood
LOCK STRIKER

  1. Mark the position of the striker on the body lock pillar using a pencil.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 striker bolts and the lock striker.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Position the lock striker on the lock pillar and install the striker bolts.
  2.  
  3. Align the striker with the pencil marks and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If necessary, align the striker as follows:
    1. Loosen the striker bolts, then snug them so that the striker can still be moved.
    2.  
    3. Hold the outside handle out and gently push the door against the body to be sure the striker allows a flush fit.
    4.  
    5. Slowly open the door and tighten the striker bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surface on the lock pillar.
    8.

INSIDE REMOTE HANDLE
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Center punch each rivet, then drill out the rivets using a 3 / 16 in. (4.8mm) drill bit.
  6.  
  7. Slide the remote handle rearward to disengage the tabs on the handle from the slots in the door.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Place the tabs on the handle into the slots in the door and slide the handle forward.

  3. Secure the remote handle using 3 / 16 in. peel type rivets.

  5. Install the water deflector and door panel.

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rod from the outside handle on 1991-92 vehicles or from the latch on 1993 vehicles.
  6.  
  7. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining screws and remove the outside handle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the outside handle and tighten the screws to 54 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Connect the rod to the handle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the block-out spring, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Check the door lock system for proper operation.
  10.  
  11. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  12.  

LOCK CYLINDER

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rod.
  6.  
  7. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Detach or reposition any wiring harnesses that are in the way.
  10.  
  11. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the lock cylinder retainer and remove the lock cylinder.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install a gasket over the lock cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Install the lock cylinder, including any wiring harnesses that may be attached.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock cylinder retainer.
  6.  
  7. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Connect or reposition any other wiring harnesses, as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Connect the rod.
  12.  
  13. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  14.  

DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR-COUPE FRONT DOOR

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Detach the actuator harness.
  6.  
  7. Drill out the 2 rivets.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lock actuator linkage and remove the lock actuator.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the lock actuator and connect the linkage.
  2.  
  3. Install the actuator with 2 rivets.
  4.  
  5. Connect the actuator harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.  

DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR-SEDAN FRONT DOOR

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Drill out the 3 mounting plate-to-door rivets.
  6.  
  7. Detach the lock actuator harness.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lock actuator linkage.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mounting plate and actuator from the door.
  12.  
  13. Drill out the 2 actuator-to-mounting plate rivets and remove the actuator.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the actuator to the mounting plate with 2 rivets.
  2.  
  3. Position the mounting plate in the door.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lock actuator linkage and wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Install 3 mounting plate-to-door rivets.
  8.  
  9. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  10.  

DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR-REAR DOOR

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Drill out the rivet on the lock rod cover.
  6.  
  7. Drill out the 2 actuator rivets.
  8.  
  9. Detach the lock actuator harness.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lock actuator linkage.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lock actuator.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Position the lock actuator and connect the linkage and wiring harness.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 actuator rivets.
  4.  
  5. Install the rivet on the lock rod cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.

LOCK ACTUATOR
  1. Remove the water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws retaining the actuator to the lock module assembly and disengage the actuator from the bell crank.
  4.  
  5. Remove the actuator.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Connect the actuator to the bell crank and install the actuator retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  4.  

LOCK ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock module assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect all rods attached to the lock.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lock by straightening the tabs.
  10.  
  11. Remove the door ajar switch attaching screw.
  12.  
  13. Remove the door ajar switch by pushing down on the switch to disengage the lip on the switch from the lock.
  14.  

To install:


NOTE
A new service lock will have a block-out plug installed. Do not operate the lock or remove the plug until the lock is installed and the rod is connected to the lock.

  1. Position the lip on the door ajar switch to the lock and push up on the switch. Install the attaching screw.
  2.  
  3. Position the lock on the lock module and bend the tabs over to secure.
  4.  
  5. Attach all rods that were disconnected in the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Install the lock module assembly.
  8.  
  9. The block-out plug is used to adjust the outside handle. With the block-out plug in place, push the outside handle rod up and adjust the barrel nut to fit in the lock lever. Remove the block-out plug.
  10.  
  11. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  12.  

OUTSIDE HANDLE

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. On Seville front door, remove the inner panel cam retaining screws and remove the inner panel cam by sliding off roller of regulator.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the rod from the outside handle.
  8.  
  9. On Seville rear door, remove the lock module assembly.
  10.  
  11. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Remove the retaining screws and the outside handle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the outside handle and tighten the retaining screws to 48-60 inch lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. On Seville rear door, install the lock module assembly.
  6.  
  7. Connect the rod to the handle.
  8.  
  9. If installing a new service handle, remove the block-out spring.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the door lock system for proper operation.
  12.  
  13. On Seville front door, install the inner panel cam locating over roller of regulator. Install the screws and tighten to 72-96 inch lbs. (9-12 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  16.  

LOCK CYLINDER

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. On Seville front door, remove the inner panel cam retaining screws and remove the inner panel cam by sliding off roller of regulator.
  6.  
  7. On Seville, use a 1 / 4 in. (6.3mm) drill bit to drill out the rear run channel retainer rivet. Remove the rear run channel retainer by lifting up on the retainer to disengage the lower retainer from the upper channel.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the rod.
  10.  
  11. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Detach or reposition any wiring harnesses that are in the way.
  14.  
  15. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the lock cylinder retainer and remove the lock cylinder.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install a gasket over the lock cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Install the lock cylinder, including any wiring harnesses that may be attached.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock cylinder retainer.
  6.  
  7. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Connect or reposition any other wiring harnesses, as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Connect the rod.
  12.  
  13. On Seville, engage the tab on the rear run channel retainer with the slot in the upper channel. Secure with a new rivet.
  14.  
  15. On Seville front door, install the inner panel cam locating over roller of regulator. Install the screws and tighten to 72-96 inch lbs. (9-12 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  18.  

1992-98 Eldorado And Seville
LOCK STRIKER
  1. Mark the position of the striker on the body lock pillar using a pencil.

  1. Remove the 2 striker bolts and the lock striker, spacer and washer.
  2.  

To install:

  1. Assemble the washer, spacer and striker.
  2.  
  3. Position the lock striker assembly on the lock pillar and install the striker bolts.
  4.  
  5. Align the striker with the pencil marks and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  6.  
  7. If necessary, align the striker as follows:
    1. Loosen the striker bolts, then snug them so that the striker can still be moved. Place tool J-39346 or equivalent, over the striker.
    2.  
    3. Hold the outside handle out and gently push the door flush against the body to locate the striker.
    4.  
    5. Slowly open the door and tighten the striker bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surface on the lock pillar.
    8.

  1. Install the locating rivets using monobolt type rivets and monobolt rivet head in rivet gun.
  2.  


NOTE
The upper front and upper rear corner rivets are locating rivets. On Eldorado, install the front rivet first, then the rear rivet. On Seville rear door, install the locating rivet first, then working clockwise install the remaining rivets. On Seville front door, install the locating rivet, then the remaining rivets.

  1. Install the remaining rivets.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring harness connectors.
  4.  
  5. On Eldorado, install the window sash bolts.
  6.  
  7. On Seville, install the rivets retaining the window to the sash.
  8.  
  9. Connect the outside handle and lock rods to the lock.
  10.  
  11. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  12.  

INSIDE REMOTE HANDLE

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.

  9. Disconnect the lock rods from the handle.

To install:

  1. Connect the lock rods to the handle.
  2.  
  3. Place the tabs on the handle into the slots in the module.
  4.  
  5. Secure the remote handle using 3 / 16 in. peel type rivets.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.  

LOCK ACTUATOR
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 Torx® screws retaining the actuator to the lock assembly and remove the actuator.
  8.  

To install:


NOTE
Before installing the new actuator, the lock assembly must be in the full open position and the teeth on the lock switch (part of the actuator) must be pushed fully toward the actuator arm to prevent damage to the lock switch when the lock assembly is operated.

  1. Release the lock assembly to be sure it is in the full open position. Do this by pushing up on the outside lock rod lever and then pulling on the inside lock handle lever.
  2.  
  3. Before placing the new actuator on the lock assembly, first position the plastic teeth of the lock switch. Push the teeth fully toward the actuator arm so they will mesh correctly with the teeth on the lock assembly when installed. Refer to appropriate illustration.
  4.  
  5. Make sure that the actuating arm rubber bumper is on the actuating arm. Install the actuating arm and bumper into the locking lever, align the lock switch teeth to the gear tooth fork bolt and align the screw holes.
  6.  
  7. Install the Torx® screws and tighten to 6-9 inch lbs. (0.64-1.05 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Manually operate the lock assembly by pushing inward on the fork bolt until it clicks into the fully closed position.
  10.  


NOTE
The lock must operate to the fully closed position without any interference.

  1. Attach the wiring connectors and test operation of the actuator and lock switch.
  2.  
  3. Install the lock assembly. Make sure the lock carrier is properly mounted and retained.
  4.  
  5. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  6.  

LOCK ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock rod shield from the module.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lock rods from the lock.
  8.  
  9. Detach the wiring connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 3 retaining screws and the lock assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the lock assembly and tighten the screws to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connectors and the lock rods.
  4.  
  5. Install the lock rod shield.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.  

OUTSIDE HANDLE

NOTE
The door glass must be in the full-up position for this procedure.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rod from the outside handle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut retaining the key cylinder but leave the cylinder in the door.
  8.  
  9. Detach the wiring connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts and the outside handle.

To install:

  1. Install the outside handle and tighten the bolts to 48-60 inch lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the nut retaining the key lock cylinder.
  4.  
  5. Attach the wiring connector and connect the rod to the handle.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.  

Lock Cylinder

NOTE

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lock cylinder-to-lock rod.
  6.  
  7. Detach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining nut and the lock cylinder.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the lock cylinder, including any wiring harnesses that may be attached. Secure with the retaining nut.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connector, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lock cylinder-to-lock rod.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector and door panel.
  8.
