REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Place the transmission in neutral.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the heatshield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts from the propeller shaft center bearing bracket at the underbody.
  8.  
  9. Remove the propeller shaft from the front propeller shaft coupling:
    1. Remove the coupling nuts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the coupling bolts.
    4.  
    5. Slide the front half of the shaft rearward in order to clear the coupling about 1 inch.
    6.  
    7. Lower the shaft.
    8.

  11. Remove the propeller shaft from the rear propeller shaft coupling:
    1. Remove the coupling nuts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the coupling bolts.
    4.  
    5. Slide the rear half of the shaft frontward in order to clear the coupling about 1 inch.
    6.  
    7. Lower the shaft.
    8.

  13. Slide the propeller shaft between the exhaust and the underbody in order to remove it without removing the exhaust system.
  14.  
  15. Remove the propeller shaft center bearing, if necessary.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the propeller shaft center bearing, if it was removed.
  2.  
  3. Install the propeller shaft into the mounting position between the exhaust and the underbody.
  4.  
  5. Prepare the shaft flanges for assembly.
    1. Clean the bushing surfaces on both the front (transmission end) and the rear (differential end) flanges.
    2.  
    3. Apply a light coating of grease (GM P/N12345740) or equivalent, to the flange surfaces.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Install the propeller shaft center bearing bracket bolts through the bracket and into the body.
    1. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Install the propeller shaft to the rear propeller shaft coupling.
  10.  
  11. Install the propeller shaft coupling nuts and bolts.
    1. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
    2.  

  12.  
  13. Install the front coupling bolts and nuts and tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the heatshields and tighten the nuts to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  16.
