REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Catera
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely.
  2.  
  3. Support the rear axle cradle at the differential.
  4.  
  5. Scribe a reference mark on the vehicle body around the perimeter of the rear axle cradle mount to ensure proper re-installation.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear axle cradle mount to the vehicle body bolts.
  8.  
  9. Slightly lower the rear axle cradle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear axle cradle mount protective shield.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm.
  14.  
  15. Lower the rear cradle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the stabilizer shaft.
  18.  
  19. Transfer the stabilizer shaft links.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft.
    1. Tighten the stabilizer shaft mounting bracket bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  3. Raise the rear axle cradle.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm.
    1. Tighten the stabilizer shaft link bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    2.  

  6.  
  7. Install the rear axle cradle mount protective shields.
  8.  
  9. Raise the rear axle cradle into position.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear axle cradle mount to the vehicle body bolts.
    1. Tighten the rear axle cradle mount bolts to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
    2.  

  12.  
  13. Remove the support fixture.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle. Adjust the rear toe to specifications.
  16.  

Deville and Fleetwood
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar link bolt, nut, retainer and bushings from the stabilizer bar bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the link bolt and bend the open end of the link downward.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer bar and bushings.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer bar and bushings. Install the bushing into the link with the slit facing the rear of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Bend the link upward to close around the bushing and install the link bolt.
  4.  
  5. Install the link bushings, retainers, support bolt and nut.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the link nut to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm) and the link bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) on 1990-91 vehicles or 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm) on 1992-98 vehicles.

Eldorado and Seville
1990-92 MODELS

NOTE
It is easier to remove and install the stabilizer bar with the vehicle on the ground and supported by the wheels. If it is necessary to raise the vehicle for stabilizer bar removal & installation, use drive-on ramps or support the control arms as far outboard as possible with jacks.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar attaching nut and bolt at the strut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer link bolt and nut at the suspension support.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle. Remove the stabilizer link and bushings, if required.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Inspect the bushings for cuts, cracks or tears and replace as necessary.
  2.  
  3. Install the bushings and links on the stabilizer bar.
  4.  
  5. Position the stabilizer bar in the vehicle and install the bolts and nuts at the suspension support and strut.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the link bolt and stabilizer mounting nuts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
  8.  

1993-98 MODELS
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer link lower bolt and upper nut on both sides of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer brackets and remove the bushings from the stabilizer bar.
  8.  
  9. Lower and support the exhaust system at the rear of the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  12.

  1. Position the stabilizer bar in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Raise the exhaust system into position and secure.
  4.  
  5. Position the bushings on the stabilizer bar and install the brackets.
  6.  
  7. Install the link upper nuts and lower bolts. Tighten the upper link nut to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm) and the lower link bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the stabilizer bracket bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
