    Windshield Wiper Blade and Arm

    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



    Catera
    1. Open the hood.
    2.  
    3. Remove the windshield wiper arm stud cap that conceals the nut.
    4.  
    5. Remove the windshield wiper arm nut.
    6.  
    7. Grasp the windshield wiper arm with both hands.
    8.  
    9. Use a rocking motion to loosen the windshield wiper arm from the pivots.
    10.  
    11. Remove the windshield wiper arm and blade.
    12.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reversal of the removal procedure.
    2.  

    Deville and Fleetwood
    WIPER ARM
    1. Raise the hood as needed for access to the wiper arms.
    2.  
    3. Operate the wipers and turn the ignition OFF when the wipers are at the mid-wipe position.
    4.  
    5. Lift the wiper arm from the windshield.
    6.  
    7. On 1990 vehicles, pull the retaining latch and remove the arm from the transmission shaft.
    8.  
    9. On 1991-93 vehicles, disengage the retaining latch using a suitable tool and remove the arm from the transmission shaft.
    10.  

    To install:

    1. Install the wiper arm onto the transmission shaft.
    2.  
    3. Push the retaining latch in and return the arm assembly to the windshield.
    4.  
    5. Park the wipers. If adjustment is necessary, proceed as follows:
      1. Remove the right wiper arm.
      2.  
      3. Open the small door to access the wiper linkage; refer to the illustration for details.
      4.

    1. Loosen, but do not remove the transmission linkage adjustment nuts.
    2.  
    3. Rotate the left arm and blade assembly to slightly below the blade stops.
    4.  
    5. On 1990 vehicles, tighten the transmission adjustment screws to 64 inch lbs. (7 Nm). On 1991 vehicles, tighten the transmission linkage adjustment nuts to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm). On 1992-98 vehicles, tighten the transmission linkage adjustment nuts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

    7. Position the right wiper arm and blade assembly below the blade stops, then install the arm onto the transmission shaft.
    8.  
    9. Lift both arm and blade assemblies over the stops.
    10.  
    11. Check the wiper pattern and park position with the windshield wet and the wipers operating at low speed. Dimension A in figure 84206090 should be 11 / 16 from the top of the driver's blade assembly on the outwipe to the edge of the glass.

    Eldorado and Seville-Early Models
    WIPER ARM
    1. Operate the wipers and turn the ignition OFF when the wipers are at the mid-wipe position.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the hose on the wiper arm from the hose connector.
    4.  
    5. Lift the wiper arm from the windshield and pull the retaining latch.
    6.  
    7. Remove the arm from the transmission shaft.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Install the arm on the transmission shaft.
    2.  
    3. Push the retaining latch in and return the arm to the windshield.
    4.  
    5. Connect the hose on the wiper arm to the hose connector.
    6.  
    7. Park the wipers. If adjustment is necessary, proceed as follows:
      1. Raise the hood and remove the wiper arms.
      2.  
      3. Open the transmission adjustment window on the left side of the cowl vent screen.
      4.  
      5. Loosen, but do not remove the transmission drive link-to-motor crank arm attaching screws.
      6.  
      7. Position the left arm and blade assembly to the transmission shaft. Align the slot in the arm to the key-way and push the arm down. Engage the slide latch.
      8.  
      9. Rotate the left arm assembly to a position one inch below the ramp stop.
      10.  
      11. Tighten the attaching screws on the transmission link-to-motor crank arm to 4 ft. lbs. (6 Nm).
      12.  
      13. While the left arm assembly is still below the ramp stop, position the right arm and blade assembly to the transmission shaft approximately one inch below the ramp stop. Push the arm down and engage the slide latch.
      14.  
      15. Close the adjustment window and place the arm assemblies on the ramp stop on the vent screen.
      16.  
      17. Check the wiper pattern and park position as shown in Figures `84206094' and `84206095'. The outwipe dimensions are determined with the wipers operating at low speed on wet glass.

    Eldorado and Seville-Late Models
    WIPER ARM
    1. Turn the ignition ON , place the wipers in the park position. Turn the ignition OFF .
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the washer hose from the hose connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the protective cap.
    6.  
    7. Lift the wiper arm and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet completely through the 2 holes located next to the pivot of the arm.
    8.  
    9. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut.
    10.  
    11. Lift the arm from the shaft using a rocking motion.
    12.  


    NOTE
    If the arm will not lift off the shaft using a rocking motion, use a battery terminal remover or similar tool to aid removal. Clean the knurls of the shaft with a suitable wire brush.

    To install:

    1. Connect the washer hose.
    2.  
    3. Install the wiper arm (without the blade) one inch below the park ramp.
    4.  
    5. Remove the pivot prevention pin from the wiper arm.
    6.  
    7. Install a new wiper arm retaining nut.
    8.  
    9. Lift the wiper arm over the park ramp and install the wiper blade.
    10.  
    11. Tighten the nut to 15-19 ft. lbs. (20-26 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Operate the wipers and check for correct wipe pattern. The left-hand blade tip should wipe from 1 3 / 16 to 3 3 / 16 from the inner edge of the windshield molding. The right-hand blade should overlap the left-hand wipe pattern.
    14.  
    15. Install the protective cap.
