Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM)

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fasteners on the lower sound insulator panel under the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower sound insulator panel from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the left side kick panel.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the nut attaching the EBCM/EBTCM to the upper instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Push in the retainer (Christmas tree) securing the EBCM/EBTCM bracket to the side wall.
  12.  

It will be necessary to cut the push in retainer head off to remove the bracket. Do not attempt to pry the fastener out, as this may damage the bracket.

  1. Remove the EBCM and EBCM bracket from its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Detach the electrical connectors, then remove the EBCM from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the remaining part of the push in retainer. It is necessary to remove the destroyed retainer to be sure of proper securing force when installing the push in retainer.

To install:
  1. Attach the EBCM electrical connectors.
  2.  
  3. Position the EBCM and EBCM bracket into its mounting position.
  4.  
  5. Install a new push in retainer (Christmas tree) attaching the EBCM bracket to the side wall.
  6.  
  7. Install the nut securing the bracket to the upper instrument panel and tighten to 18.5 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the left side kick panel.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower sound insulator panel and secure with the fasteners.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
