  2.
  3. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  4.
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

The crankshaft balancer is serviced as an assembly. Do not attempt to separate the pulley from the balancer hub.

To install:
  1. Position the crankshaft balancer and secure with the retaining bolt/screw. Tighten to 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm) plus an additional 76 degrees using tool J 36660 or equivalent torque angle meter.
  2.
  3. Install the transmission cover pan and the braces.
  4.
  5. Install the starter motor.
  6.
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  8.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Matchmark the crankshaft hub to the engine front cover assembly.
  2.

WARNING
Do not crank the engine over after making the match marks. Rotating the crankshaft will misalign the installation of the balancer assembly to the crankshaft and possibly cause engine misbalance.

  1. Unfasten the crankshaft hub bolt/screw and washer. Remove the crankshaft hub using tool J 39046.
  2.

  1. If the engine should be accidentally cranked over after matchmarking the hub and front cover, the hub can be installed as follows:
    1. Set the number 1 piston of TDC.
    2.
    3. Install the crankshaft hub with the cast arrow on the hub in the 12 o-clock position.
    4.

  2.

To install:
  1. Install the crankshaft hub using tool J 39046. Install the crankshaft hub washer and retaining bolt/screw.
  2.
  3. Install the crankshaft balancer assembly and bolts/screws.
  4.

If the damper (balancer) assembly is being replaced, new balance weights of the same size must be installed on the new balancer in the same hole locations and the old balancer assembly.

  1. Tighten the crankshaft balancer hub bolt/screw to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) and the crankshaft balancer bolts/screws to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  2.
  3. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  4.
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle.
