Electric Cooling Fan

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner and ducts, if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the electric fan harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fan frame-to-radiator support mounting bolts, then remove the fan assembly. Some models are retained by clips. Remove these, then slide the fan assembly from the radiator.

If a fan blade is bent or damaged, you should not try to repair and/or reuse it. A damaged blade should always be replace with a new one.

  1. If necessary to remove the fan blade(s), remove the retaining nut, then remove the blade. Inspect the blade for bends or cracks.

CAUTION
It is crucial that the fan blade be kept in proper balance. Balance can not be guaranteed once a blade is bent or damaged. A blade that is damaged or not in proper balance could fail and fly apart causing an extremely dangerous situation.

To install:
  1. If removed, install the fan blade(s) to the frame and secure with the retaining nut.
  2.  
  3. Slide the cooling fan frame into position to the radiator support and secure with the retaining bolts or clips.
  4.  
  5. Attach the electric fan wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner and ducts.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and check fan operation.
