REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 through 14

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, remove the hold-down bolts/screws and the air box cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air inlet ducts and air cleaner, if necessary.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, perform the following:
    1. Detach the air temperature sensor electrical connector.
    2.  
    3. Unlatch the vent hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the lower air box.
    4.  
    5. Remove the clamp attaching the rubber shoulder from the lower air box to the mass air flow sensor.
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Remove the upper radiator mounting panel.
  10.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  4.  


CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Detach the electric fan connectors.
  2.

  1. Remove the electric cooling fan(s), if equipped.
  2.

  1. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect and plug the transmission fluid cooler lines.

  1. If equipped, remove the coolant level indicator module.
  2.  
  3. If easily accessible at this time, disconnect the lower hose from the radiator.
  4.

  1. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the receiver dehydrator bracket.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
  6.

  1. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the overflow hose.
  2.  
  3. Detach the radiator from the condenser, then lift the radiator up, out of the vehicle.
  4.

The radiator assembly is held at the bottom by two cradles secured to the radiator support.

  1. If installing a new radiator, transfer the fittings from the old radiator to the new radiator.

To install:
  1. Place the radiator in the vehicle. Check that radiator lower cradles are located properly in radiator recess.
  2.

  1. Fasten the radiator to the condenser.
  2.  
  3. Connect the overflow tube and upper radiator hose.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the receiver dehydrator bracket.
  8.  
  9. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, install the coolant level indicator module.
  12.  
  13. For vehicles with automatic transmission, unplug and connect the transmission oil cooler lines.
  14.  
  15. Install the electric cooling fans.
  16.  
  17. Install the radiator upper mounting panel. Tighten the retaining screws to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Attach the fan electrical connectors.
  20.  
  21. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. If equipped, perform the following:
    1. Install the lower air box in the vehicle and secure with the retaining bolt/screw.
    2.  
    3. Fasten the clamp attaching the rubber shoulder from the lower air box to the mass air flow sensor.
    4.  
    5. Connect the vent hose and fasten the clamp to the lower air box.
    6.  
    7. Attach the electrical connector to the air temperature sensor.
    8.

  25. Install the air cleaner and air intake duct.
  26.  
  27. If equipped, install the air filter and the air box cover and hold-down bolts/screws..
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  
  31. Refill the cooling system. Check the engine oil and transmission fluid levels, if necessary. Run engine for a short period of time and check for leaks.
