REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1993-96 Vehicles

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the bolts/screws attaching the console to the instrument panel center support bracket and manual floor console bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower bolt/screw securing the console to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front bolts/screws attaching the console to the bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the console from the vehicle.
  10.

To install:
  1. Install the console as follows:
    1. Route the wiring connectors through their respective openings.
    2.  
    3. Insert the parking brake through its appropriate opening.
    4.  
    5. Place the locating pin on the console into the hole in the shifter bracket drive.
    6.  
    7. Position the console to the floor of the vehicle.
    8.  

  2.  
  3. Install the console-to-bracket bolts/screws and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the bolt/screw attaching the console to the instrument panel and tighten to 49 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the bolts/screws securing the console to the instrument panel center support bracket and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

1997-98 Vehicles

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  4.  
  5. Place the shift lever in the N position. Remove the shift lever knob from the lever.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate, as follows:
    1. Unsnap the front floor console accessory trim plate, or accessory bin, as applicable.
    2.  
    3. If equipped, tag and detach the electrical connectors from the switches.
    4.  
    5. Open the floor console door.
    6.  
    7. Remove the coin holder from inside the console.
    8.  
    9. Remove the console transmission shift opening trim plate bolts/screws.
    10.  
    11. Detach the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
    12.  
    13. Remove the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate.

  1. Remove the front console bolts.
  2.  
  3. Raise the parking brake handle slightly.
  4.  
  5. Detach the power outlet connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the console from the vehicle.
  8.

To install:
  1. Position the console in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Connect the power outlet.
  4.  
  5. Lower the parking brake handle.
  6.  
  7. Install the front console bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate, as follows:
    1. Position the trim plate over the shifter lever initially inserting the forward end of the trim plate into the console, then apply pressure and snap into place.
    2.  
    3. Attach the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Install the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate bolts/screws and tighten to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Install the coin holder inside the console.
    8.  
    9. If equipped, attach the electrical connectors to the switches.
    10.  
    11. Insert the front floor console trim plate or accessory bin.
    12.  
    13. Snap the front floor console accessory trim plate into position.
    14.  

  10.  
  11. Install the shift lever knob to the shift lever.
  12.  
  13. Place the shift lever in the P position.
  14.  
  15. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.
