REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  2.  
  3. Mark driveshaft and pinion flange, then remove the driveshaft.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear stabilizer shaft.
  6.  
  7. Safely support the rear axle housing with an adjustable jack.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear shock absorbers.
  10.  
  11. Remvoe the rear axle tie rod.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear bracket (center) hose from the rear brake hose junction block.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rear springs.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the rear axle housing.
  18.  
  19. If equipped with rear disc brakes, detach the electrical connectors from the rear wheel speed sensors. If equipped with rear drum brakes, unplug the connector from the wheel speed sensor in the rear axle housing.
  20.  
  21. Remove the rear axle torque arm and lower control arms.
  22.  
  23. With the help of an assistant, remove the rear axle housing assembly from the vehicle.
  24.  

To install:
  1. With the help of an assistant, position the rear axle housing.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower control arms.
  4.  
  5. Install the rear axle torque arm.
  6.  
  7. Attach the electrical connectors to the wheel speed sensors or sensor in axle housing, as applicable.
  8.  
  9. Connect the parking brake cables to the rear axle housing.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear springs.
  12.  
  13. Connect the rear brake (center) hose to the rear brake hose junction block.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear axle tie rod.
  16.  
  17. Install the shock absorbers.
  18.  
  19. Remove the lifting device from the rear axle housing.
  20.  
  21. Install the rear stabilizer shaft.
  22.  
  23. Install and secure the driveshaft aligning the match marks made earlier.
  24.  
  25. Connect the shock absorbers to the axle and install the wheel assemblies.
  26.  
  27. Replace any lost rear axle fluid, then carefully lower the vehicle and bleed the brake system.
