Wheel Lug Studs

REPLACMENT



Front

See Figure 1

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle, then remove the wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper from the rotor and support aside with a piece of wire.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rotor from the spindle.
  6.  
  7. Properly support the rotor and press the stud out using wheel stud remover J 6627-A or equivalent tool.
  8.

To install
  1. Clean the stud hole with a wire brush, then start the new serrated bolt into the hole in the hub. Tap the bolt lightly with a hammer to start the bolt serration in the hole, making sure the bolt is square with the hub flange. Do not use any lubricant or thread sealer.

  3. Finish installing the stud with the press.
  4.  
  5. Install the rotor, then install the brake caliper.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully lower the vehicle.
  8.  

Rear

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle, then remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the brake drum or rotor, as applicable.
  4.  

Do not hammer the wheel stud to remove it as this will ruin the wheel bearing.

  1. Use wheel stud remover J 6627-A or equivalent tool to press the stud out of the hub.
  2.

To install:
  1. Clean the stud hole with a wire brush.
  2.  
  3. Install the wheel lug stud, stack 4 washers, then install the lugnut to the axle shaft flange.

  1. Tighten the lugnut until the lug stud is completely seated against the axle shaft flange. It should be easy to feel when the stud is seated.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the lug stud 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm), then remove the lugnut and the washers.
  4.  
  5. Install the rotor and caliper or drum, as applicable.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully lower the vehicle.
