GM Caprice 1990-1993 Repair Guide

Catalytic Converter

The catalytic converter is an emission control device added to the exhaust system to reduce pollutants from the exhaust gas stream. Remove the front crossover pipe assembly and front pipe to converter. Remove any AIR injection tubes, as necessary. Remove the converter hanger and intermediate pipe-to-flange retaining bolts. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, pay special attention to the fit and alignment of the system. Secure with new clamps.

Periodic maintenance of the exhaust system is not required, however, if the car is raised for other service, it is advisable to check the general condition of the catalytic converter, pipes and mufflers.
