REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air condition/radio console trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Remove the control head retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Pull the assembly forward, disconnect the electrical and vacuum connections. Remove the temperature control cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the control assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. To install, position the control head into the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Install the temperature control cable.
  14.  
  15. Connect the electrical and vacuum connections and push the assembly rearward.
  16.  
  17. Install the air condition control retaining screws.
  18.  
  19. Install the console trim plate.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.

  1. Remove the steering column opening filler by removing the two screws near the lower edge of the filler. Pull down to unsnap the four integral clips holding the filler to instrument panel.

  3. Loosen the steering column attaching nuts and lower the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the eight trim plate attaching screws. Pull the trim plate straight away from the instrument panel carrier, snapping the seven integral clips out of the slots in the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the temperature control cable push-on retainer and cable loop from the pin at the bottom of the control assembly.
  8.  

Do not attempt to remove the temperature control cable by force without releasing the lock tab in the slot of the control assembly. Damage to the lock tab will result.

  1. Squeeze the lock tab toward the left side of vehicle to release temperature control cable retainer and clip the retainer down and out of the slot in the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control assembly attaching screws and pull assembly out just far enough to reach the electrical connectors, vacuum harness connectors and temperature control cable end at the back of the control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two push-on retainers holding the circular 5-hose connector, and pull the connector off the vacuum switch.
  8.  
  9. Pull the 2-hose connector off the hot water valve vacuum switch, and remove the control assembly.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the vacuum harness assembly and push-on retainers to the back of the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connectors to the back of the control head assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the temperature control cable retainer and clip the retainer in the slot in the control assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the control assembly and attaching screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim plate and attaching screws.
  10.  
  11. Raise the steering column and tighten the steering column attaching nuts.
  12.  
  13. Install the steering column opening filler and the two screws near the lower edge of the filler.
