Back-up Light Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left sound insulator. Disconnect the wiring at the switch assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the parking brake vacuum actuator hose assembly, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Remove the switch assembly retainer and sealing strip, if equipped. Remove the switch assembly.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Block the drive wheels and place the transmission in N .
  2.  
  3. Align the actuator on the switch assembly with the hole on the shaft tube.
  4.  
  5. Position the connector side of the switch assembly to fit into the cutout on the steering column shaft.
  6.  
  7. Push down on the switch assembly to lock the tangs into place in the steering shaft.
  8.  
  9. If a used switch was reinstalled, move the switch assembly to the right, the LOW gear position. Then, place the transmission in P , the switch assembly will ratchet as it adjusts itself.
  10.  
  11. If a new switch being installed, simply place the transmission in P and the switch assembly will ratchet as it adjusts itself automatically.
  12.  
  13. Verify the switch is adjusted properly.
  14.  
  15. Install the switch retainer, if equipped.
  16.  
  17. Install the parking brake vacuum actuator.
  18.  
  19. Connect the switch wire connector.
  20.  
  21. Install the instrument panel sound insulator.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
