  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column trim plate screws and the trim plate.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left hand sound insulator, if applicable.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the shift indicator cable from the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Remove the steering column to instrument panel screws. Lower the steering column.
  10.  

Use extreme care when lowering the steering column in order to prevent damage to column assembly.

  1. Remove the screws and the snap in fasteners from the perimeter of the instrument cluster lens.
  2.  
  3. Reach behind the instrument panel and remove the stud nuts from the lower corner of the cluster.
  4.  
  5. Reach behind the instrument panel and disconnect the speedometer cable, if applicable, and wiring harness connections.
  6.  
  7. Remove the assembly from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Position instrument assembly to the instrument panel and connect the speedometer cable.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring harness connections.
  4.  
  5. Install nuts attaching 2 rear lower corner studs to the instrument panel carrier.
  6.  
  7. Attach cluster to carrier with screws.
  8.  
  9. Carefully raise the steering column and attach with screws to the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the shift indicator cable to the steering column.
  12.  
  13. If removed, connect the left hand sound insulator.
  14.  
  15. Connect the steering column trim plate and screws.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.

These vehicles are equipped with an instrument cluster assembly which is not repairable. The entire assembly must be replaced as a unit.

This vehicle is equipped with an air bag system, make certain to follow the recommended disarming procedures before, and arming procedures after, repairs.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left side trim plate:
    1. Remove the steering column opening filler.
    2.  
    3. Open the instrument panel compartment door and unsnap the right side molding from the carrier.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the capsule nuts attaching the steering column support bracket to the carrier, to the end of the threads but do not remove from the bolts. Gently lower the steering column.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 6 screws attaching the trim plate to the carrier and carefully unsnap and pull away.

  5. Remove the 4-5 screws attaching the cluster to the carrier.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the shift indicator cable from the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Gently pull the cluster from the electrical connector and remove the cluster from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Position the cluster in the vehicle and gently snap onto the connector.
  2.  
  3. Attach the shift indicator cable to the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Attach cluster to the carrier with the 4-5 carrier screws and tighten to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the left side trim plate and, if necessary, adjust the shift indicator as follows:
    1. Remove the steering column opening filler.
    2.  
    3. The shift lever should be in the N gate notch.
    4.  
    5. Position the guide clip on the edge of the gearshift lever bowl to centrally position the pointer on N . Push the guide clip onto the gearshift lever bowl.

  9. Connect negative battery cable and enable the SIR system.
