Windshield Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the hood and on 1991-93, remove the right side wiper arm and hose.
  4.  
  5. Remove cowl screen, beginning with the left side on 1991-93.
  6.  

On 1991-93 vehicles, the left side cowl screen must be removed before the right side cowl screen to prevent possible windshield damage.

  1. Remove the linkage access hole cover, if equipped.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the transmission drive link to crank arm retaining bolts. Remove the drive link from the motor crank arm.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical wiring and any remaining washer hoses from the motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the motor retaining screws. Remove the windshield wiper motor while guiding the crank arm through the hole.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Guide the wiper motor guiding crank arm through the hole.
  2.  
  3. Insert and tighten wiper motor attaching bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Place the motor in the P position and attach the motor crank arm to the drive link. Tighten drive link nuts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Attach wiper linkage access hole cover with screws. Tighten hole cover screws to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install right and left side cowl screens.
  12.  

On 1991-93 vehicles, the right side cowl screen must be installed before the left side cowl screen to prevent possible windshield damage.

  1. Attach the right side wiper arm and hose.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable and check wiper motor operation.
  4.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm and blade assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the end gate trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the motor retaining nut located on the wiper arm shaft.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the motor wire connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts securing the motor to the rear header.
  12.  
  13. Remove the motor assembly.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the motor assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the bolts securing the motor to the rear header.
  4.  
  5. Connect the motor wire connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the motor retaining nut located on the wiper arm shaft.
  8.  
  9. Install the end gate trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Install the wiper arm and blade assembly.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
