Fuel System Pressure Relief

1992 VEHICLES



  1. Loosen the full filler cap to relieve the tank vapor pressure. Leave the cap loose at this time.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Detach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and run until the fuel supply remaining in the fuel pipes is consumed. Engage the starter for 3 seconds to assure relief of any remaining pressure in the lines.
  10.  
  11. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  12.  
  13. Attach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.

1993-94 VEHICLES



  1. Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure (do not tighten at this time).
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and run until the fuel supply remaining in the fuel pipes is consumed. Engage the starter for 3 seconds to assure relief of any remaining pressure.
  6.  
  7. Replace the fuel pump fuse in the fuse block.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.
