REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1982-87 Vehicles

WARNING
Do not operate the radio with the speaker leads disconnected. Operating the radio without an electrical load will damage the output transistors.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the instrument panel trim plate.
  4.
  5. Check the right side of the radio to determine whether a nut or a stud is used for side retention.
  6.
  7. If a nut is used, remove the hush panel and then loosen the nut from below on cars without air conditioning. On cars with air conditioning, remove the hush panel, the A/C duct and the A/C control head for access to the nut. Do not remove the nut; loosen it just enough to pull the radio out. If a rubber stud is used, go on to Step 5.
  8.
  9. Unfasten the two radio bracket-to-instrument panel attaching screws. Pull the radio forward far enough to disconnect the wiring and antenna and then remove the radio.
  10.
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
