REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1982-91 Vehicles

See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Detach the electrical connections at the blower motor and blower resistor.
  4.  

On the 3.1L engine remove the tower to tower brace assembly.

  1. On models through 1989, remove the plastic water shield from the right side of the cowl.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the blower motor retaining screws and then pull the blower motor and cage out.
  4.

  1. Hold the blower motor cage, then remove the cage retaining nut from the blower motor shaft.
  2.  
  3. Remove the blower motor and cage.
  4.

To install:
  1. Install the cage on the new motor.
  2.  
  3. Check that the retaining nut is on tight, the motor rotates and the fan cage is not interfering with the motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the motor in the heater assembly (install tower to tower brace assembly if necessary) connect the wiring and check the motor operation in all speeds.
  6.  

1992-94 Vehicles

See Figure 6

EXCEPT 3.1L ENGINES
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Tag and detach the electrical connector(s) at the blower motor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower motor cooling tube.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the blower motor retaining screws, then remove the blower motor fan and motor assembly.
  8.  

The blower motor and fan are serviced as an assembly.

To install:
  1. Place the blower motor and fan assembly in the correct position.
  2.  
  3. Install and tighten evenly the fan assembly retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, connect blower motor cooling tube.
  6.  
  7. Attach the electrical connector(s).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable, then check the blower motor operation in all speeds.

3.1L ENGINE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tower-to-tower brace.
  4.  
  5. Tag and detach the electrical connectors at the blower motor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the blower motor cooling tube.
  8.  
  9. Remove the alternator assembly, as outlined in Engine Electrical of this repair guide.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the blower motor retaining screws, then remove the blower motor and fan assembly.
  12.  

The blower motor and fan are serviced as an assembly.

To install:
  1. Place the blower motor and fan assembly in the correct position.
  2.  
  3. Install and tighten evenly the fan assembly retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the alternator assembly. Adjust the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Connect blower motor cooling tube.
  8.  
  9. Attach the electrical connections, then install the tower-to-tower brace.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and check the blower motor operation in all speeds.
  12.
