REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1, 2 and 3
On many early model engines, the air cleaner is located in the center of the engine compartment, directly over the carburetor or throttle body. On some of the 1987 and later engines the air cleaner is more conveniently located toward the front of the engine compartment with an air duct connected to the throttle body. Depending upon the year of the vehicle and which engine it is equipped with, the air cleaner assembly lid may be retained by a wing nut, screws or different types of retaining clamps and/or fasteners.
- Unscrew the wing nut or retaining screw(s), or unfasten the clamp(s), as applicable, securing the air cleaner lid, then lift off the housing lid.
- Lift out the filter element and, if necessary, replace with a new one.
- Before reinstalling the filter element, wipe out the housing with a damp cloth. Check the lid gasket to ensure that it has a tight seal.
- Position the filter element in the air cleaner housing, the close the lid and tighten the wing nut, retaining screw(s) or clamps, as applicable.
