The oil pressure switch relays the oil pressure in the engine to the instrument cluster. The switch will illuminate the OIL PRESSURE light if the oil pressure drops below 2psi (13 pa). The switch is usually located on the side of the engine, under the intake manifold on the 2.2L engine and on the side of the intake camshaft housing on the 2.3L/2.4L engine.

TESTING

WARNING
This test is for testing the switch only. Verify that the engine has sufficient oil pressure before conducting this test.

  1. Unplug the switch electrical connection.
  2.
  3. Connect one lead of a ohmmeter to the switch terminal and the other lead to the switch body.
  4.
  5. With the engine off the resistance should be approximately 1 ohm.
  6.
  7. Start the engine. The resistance should increase as the engine speed increases.
  8.
  9. If not, replace the switch.
  10.
