Diesel Idle Speed

ADJUSTMENT



  1. Apply the Parking brake, then place the transaxle in Park and block the drive wheels.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature, then turn it OFF .
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner cover and the MAP sensor retainer, then move the MAP sensor (with the leads and the hoses attached) aside.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly and install tool J-26996-1 on the intake manifold.
  8.  
  9. Clean the rpm counter on the front cover and the crankshaft balancer rim. Install the magnetic pickup probe tool J-26925 into the rpm counter, then connect the power leads to the battery.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with A/C, disconnect the compressor clutch lead from the compressor. If equipped with cruise control, remove the servo cable retainer and disconnect the servo throttle cable from the servo blade.
  12.  
  13. Make sure all of the electrical accessories are turned Off.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine and place the transaxle in Drive, then check the slow idle speed reading.
  16.  
  17. Turn OFF the engine and unplug the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
  18.  
  19. Start the engine and place the transaxle in Drive, then check the fast idle speed (allow the plunger to extend by opening the throttle slightly.
  20.  
  21. Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector and recheck and/or reset the slow idle speed.
  22.  
  23. Turn OFF the engine and reconnect the A/C compressor lead, if equipped.
  24.  
  25. To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedures.
