Fuel Injectors

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake plenum and, if equipped, remove the runners.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel rail assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the injectors electrical connections.
  10.  
  11. Rotate the injector retaining clip to the release position, discard the clip.
  12.  
  13. Remove the injector from the fuel rail assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the O-rings from both ends of the injector and discard. Save the injector O-ring backups for use on assembly.

To install:

When replacing fuel injectors, be sure the new injector is the same part number as the one removed from the engine.

To install:
  1. Install the injector backups, then lubricate new injector O-rings with engine oil and install on the injectors.
  2.  
  3. Put the new injector retainer clip on the injector. Position the open end of the clip facing the injector electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install injector into fuel rail injector socket with the electrical connectors facing out.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the injector clip to the locked position.
  8.  
  9. Make sure all electrical connections are intact.
  10.  
  11. Install the fuel rail assembly.
  12.  
  13. Check for fuel leaks by performing the following:
    1. Temporarily connect the negative battery cable.
    2.  
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 2 seconds. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 10 seconds. Again turn the ignition switch to the ON position and check for fuel leaks.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  15. Install the plenum assembly.

  17. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
