ADJUSTMENT

Except ABS and Rear Disc Brakes
  1. Adjust the brakes as described earlier.

  3. Depress the parking brake pedal exactly three ratchet clicks.
  4.
  5. Raise and support the car with both rear wheels off the ground.
  6.
  7. Tighten the adjusting nut until the right rear wheel can just be turned backward using two hands, but cannot be turned forward.
  8.
  9. Release the parking brake. Rotate the rear wheels, there should be no drag.
  10.
  11. Lower the car.
  12.

ABS Models
  1. Adjust the rear brakes. Apply the parking brake to 10 clicks and release. Repeat this process 5 times.
  2.
  3. Check the parking brake pedal for a full release.
    1. Turn the ignition to the ON position and note if the brake indicator light is off.
    2.
    3. If the light is on and the brake seems to be released, then operate the parking brake pedal lever and pull downwards on the front of the cable to remove any slack.
    4.

  4.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Adjust the parking brake by turning the nut on the equalizer while spinning both rear wheels. When either the rear wheels develops a drag, stop adjusting and back off the equalizer nut one full turn.
  8.
  9. Apply the parking brake to 4 clicks, then check the rear wheel rotation. The wheel should not move when you attempt to rotate it by hand, in a forward direction. There should be wheel drag or no movement at all when you rotate the wheel in the rearward direction.
  10.
  11. Release the parking brake and check for a free wheel rotation.
  12.
  13. Lower the vehicle. Test drive the vehicle.
  14.

Rear Disc Brakes
  1. Press the brake pedal 3 times with the force of approximately 175 ft. lbs. (237 Nm).
  2.

  4.
  5. Check the parking brake pedals for full release.
    1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
    2.
    3. The brake warning lamp should be off. If this is not the case, pull down on the front of the front parking brake cable with the hand lever completely released. This will remove any slack from the lever assembly.
    4.

  6.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.
  8.
  9. Check that the parking brake levers on both of the calipers are against the lever stops on the housings. If the levers are not against the stops, then check for binding in the rear cables, and/or loosen the cable at each adjuster until both of the left and right levers are against there stops.
  10.
  11. If the cables are binding, replace them.
  12.
  13. Tighten the cable at the adjuster until either the left or right lever begins to move off the stop, then loosen the adjustment until the lever moves back to barely touch the stop.
  14.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.
  17. Operate the parking brake several times to check the adjustment. After the cable adjustment, the brake parking brake pedal should not travel more than 16 ratchet clicks. The rear wheels should not rotate forward when the lever is applied 14 to 16 ratchet clicks.
