Lower Control Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



AWD Vehicles
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Support the control arm with a suitable stand or install tool J-33432 to neutralize the spring tension.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the 2 outer stabilizer bar bracket-to-control arm bolts and nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the one bolt connecting the brake line/ERC sensor bracket to the control arm (LH only), then move the bracket out of the way.
  12.  
  13. Remove the control arm-to-knuckle attaching bolt and nut.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the lower control arm by slowly lowering the stand or loosening the spring compressing tool.
  16.  
  17. Unfasten the 2 control arm-to-cradle bolts and nuts.
  18.  
  19. Slide the control arm from the leaf spring.
  20.  

To install:
  1. Connect the control arm on the leaf spring, ensure that the leaf spring is in the correct position.
  2.  
  3. Attach the 2 control arm-to-cradle bolts and nuts, hand-tighten them only.
  4.  
  5. Raise the control arm or tighten the spring compressor to align the outer control arm bolt bore with the knuckle bore.
  6.  
  7. Install the control arm to knuckle with the attaching nuts and bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the control arm nut at the knuckle to 125 ft. lbs. then the control arm at the cradle to 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the 1 bolt securing the brake line to the ERC sensor bracket to the control arm (LH only), then tighten the bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the 2 outer stabilizer bar bracket to control arm bolts and nuts, then tighten them to 26 ft. lbs. (354 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Remove the stand or spring compressing tool that was used to support the arm.
  16.  
  17. Install the tire and wheel, hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle, then tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
