Valve Block Assembly

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. With the ignition OFF disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Depressurize the accumulator.
  4.  
  5. For Pontiac 6000 AWD, remove the hydraulic unit. For the Pontiac 6000 STE, drain or remove the brake fluid from the reservoir.
  6.  
  7. Unplug the electrical harness running to the valve block.
  8.  
  9. It may be necessary to disconnect the brake lines from the bottom of the valve block.
  10.  
  11. At the valve block, remove the nuts and the bolt with hex faces only. Remove the valve block assembly and O-rings by sliding the valve block off of the studs. Recover any O-rings or gaskets from the mounting points and/or the fluid line ports.

Do not attempt to disassemble the valve block by removing the bolts with the recessed drive heads, the unit cannot be overhauled or repaired.

To install:
  1. Lubricate the O-rings with brake fluid.
  2.  
  3. Install the valve block and O-rings onto the master cylinder body.
  4.  
  5. Install the nuts and the bolt, then tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the brake lines to the bottom of the valve block if they were removed.
  8.  
  9. Reinstall the hydraulic unit if it was removed.
  10.  
  11. Connect the wiring harnesses.
  12.  
  13. Refill the system or reservoir to the correct level.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Bleed the brake system.
