REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




NOTE
These procedures cover dash mounted switches only. For steering column mounted switches, please refer to of this guide.

1997-00 Pontiac
  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate, using the procedure found in this section under Instrument Cluster Removal and Installation.

  1. Remove the headlamp switch by unsnapping from the instrument panel.
  2.  
  3. Detach the electrical connector and remove the switch from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

1997 Buick

NOTE
In 1997, the headlamp and fog lamp switch are combined in one unit.

  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate, using the procedure found in this section under Instrument Cluster Removal and Installation.

  1. Remove the screws from the headlamp/ fog lamp combination switch.
  2.  
  3. Remove the headlamp/fog lamp combination switch by unsnapping from the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Detach the electrical connector and remove the switch from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

1998-00 Buick
  1. Using a plastic flat-bladed tool as an aid if necessary, pull the rearward edge of the left side instrument panel access opening cover outboard to release the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Release the forward edge of the left side instrument panel access opening cover from behind the hinge pillar and remove the cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws retaining the headlamp switch.
  6.

  1. Carefully pull the headlamp switch outboard away from the instrument panel to access the electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Detach the electrical connector from the headlamp switch.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal process.

1997-00 Chevrolet
  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate, using the procedure found in this section under Instrument Cluster Removal and Installation.

  1. Remove the headlamp switch from the instrument panel by depressing the locking tabs with a small flat-blade tool. Note that some Monte Carlo models may have the fog lamp switch share the same bracket as the headlamp switch. Simply pry loose the fog lamp switch, as applicable.

  3. Detach the electrical connector and remove the switch from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal process with the following important point:
    1. After replacing the headlamp switch due to an external short, cycle the headlamp switch and the interior light dimmer switch ON and OFF twice to activate the internal circuit protection feature of the switch. All interior lights will not operate if the headlamp switch has not been cycled.

1997 Oldsmobile

On this model, the headlamp switch, the fog lamp and the Heads Up Display (HUD) switch are all combined into one unit.

  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate, using the procedure found in this section under Instrument Cluster Removal and Installation.

  1. Remove the combination headlamp, fog lamp, and HUD control switch from the instrument panel by depressing the locking tabs with a small flat-blade tool.

  3. Detach the electrical connector and remove the switch from the vehicle.

  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal process.

1998-00 Oldsmobile Intrigue

The Oldsmobile Intrigue combines the headlamp switch with the turn signal switch into what is often called a multifunction switch. The air bag and steering wheel must be removed to change out the multifunction switch. Please refer to for the replacement procedures.
