Air Conditioning Compressor

CAUTION
Please refer to Routine Maintenance before discharging the compressor or disconnecting air conditioning lines. Damage to the air conditioning system or personal injury could result. Consult your local laws concerning refrigerant discharge and recycling. In many areas it may be illegal for anyone but a certified technician to service the A/C system. Always use an approved recovery station when discharging the air conditioning.

REMOVAL



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the compressor clutch coil wire.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine fan and fan shroud.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt from the compressor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the compressor bracket.
  10.  
  11. Refer to Routine Maintenance of this guide and discharge the air conditioning system into a suitable recovery station.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screw attaching the muffler to the compressor support.
  14.  
  15. Remove the hose and muffler assembly from the compressor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the vacuum pump hose from the metal vacuum line.
  18.  
  19. Remove the four nuts and one bolt and spacer from the compressor support.
  20.  
  21. Remove the compressor support by pulling forward.
  22.  
  23. Pull the compressor forward to remove.

INSTALLATION



  1. Position the compressor to the engine.
  2.  
  3. Install the compressor support by pulling forward.
  4.  
  5. Install the four nuts and one bolt and spacer from the compressor support.
  6.  
  7. Install the vacuum pump hose to the metal vacuum line.
  8.  
  9. Install the hose and muffler assembly to the compressor.
  10.  
  11. Install the screw attaching the muffler to the compressor support.
  12.  
  13. Install the compressor bracket.
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt to the compressor and adjust the belt tension.
  16.  
  17. Install the engine fan and fan shroud.
  18.  
  19. Connect the compressor clutch coil wire.
  20.  
  21. Refer to Routine Maintenance of this guide for system evacuation and charging procedures.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
