REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the exhaust inlet and outlet pipes at the turbocharger.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the oil feed pipe from the center housing rotating assembly.
  6.
  7. Remove the nut attaching the air intake elbow to the carburetor and remove the elbow; still attached to the flex tube, from the carburetor.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the accelerator, cruise and detent linkage at the carb. Remove the linkage bracket from the plenum.
  10.
  11. Remove the two bolts attaching the plenum to the side bracket.
  12.
  13. Disconnect the fuel line and all the vacuum hoses.
  14.
  15. Drain the cooling system.
  16.

CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the front and rear of the plenum.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the plenum front bracket by removing one bolt attaching the bracket to the intake manifold. Leave the bracket attached to the manifold.
  4.
  5. Remove the two bolts attaching the turbine housing to the bracket on the intake manifold.
  6.

  1. Unscrew the two mounting bolts and then remove the EGR valve manifold.
  2.
  3. Loosen the clamp attaching the hose from the air by-pass to the pipe to the check valve.
  4.
  5. Unscrew the three compressor housing-to-intake manifold mounting bolts.
  6.
  7. Remove the turbocharger, actuator (still attached to the carburetor) and plenum assembly from the engine.
  8.
  9. Unscrew the six bolts and separate the turbocharger assembly from the carburetor.
  10.
  11. Remove the oil drain from the center housing rotating assembly.
  12.

To install:
  1. Install the oil drain to the center housing rotating assembly.
  2.
