REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1964-72
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the ash tray and ash tray housing, as necessary.
  4.  
  5. Remove the knobs, controls, washers, trim plate, and nuts from radio.
  6.  
  7. Remove the hoses from the center air conditioning duct, as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect all wiring leads.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screw from the radio rear mounting bracket and lower the radio.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Raise the radio up into position in the vehicle, then install the screw to the rear mounting bracket.
  2.  
  3. Engage all wiring leads.
  4.  
  5. If removed, connect the hoses to the center A/C duct.
  6.  
  7. Install the nuts, trim plate, washers controls and knobs to the radio assembly.
  8.  
  9. If removed, install the ash tray and housing.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and enjoy the tunes.
  12.  

1973-77
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, remove the left air conditioner lap cooler duct.
  4.  
  5. Pull off the knobs and bezels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control shaft nuts and washers. You will probably need a deep-well socket or a pair of pliers.
  8.  
  9. Remove the support bracket stud nut. Disconnect the antenna, speaker, and power wires.
  10.  
  11. Move the radio back until the shafts clear the instrument panel, then lower it from behind the panel. On later models, the radio can be removed through the instrument panel opening.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the radio to the instrument panel, then connect the antenna, speaker and power wires.
  2.  

Make sure to hook up the speaker leads before turning the radio on; operating without a speaker will damage the transistors.

  1. Install the support bracket stud nut.
  2.  
  3. Install the control shaft nuts and washers.
  4.  
  5. Install the bezels and control knobs.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, install the left air conditioner lap cooler duct.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and enjoy the tunes.
  10.  

1978-84
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radio control knobs by pulling them from the shafts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim plate screws, then carefully pull the trim plate forward from the instrument panel. If equipped, either disengage the electrical wiring from the cigarette lighter attached to the trim plate or allow the trim plate to hand by the wires out of the way.
  6.  
  7. If applicable, at the right side of the radio bracket, remove the stud nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel bracket screws, then carefully pull the radio and bracket assembly forward for access to the electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Disengage the connectors and the antenna wiring from the rear of the radio.
  12.  

To install:

WARNING
Before applying power to the radio, ALWAYS attach the speaker wiring harness.

  1. Hold the radio and bracket assembly in front of the instrument panel, then connect the wiring and antenna to the rear of the assembly.
  2.  
  3. Insert the radio and bracket assembly to the instrument panel, then secure using the retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. If applicable, install the stud nut to the right side of the radio bracket.
  6.  
  7. If removed, engage the wiring to the cigarette lighter attached to the trim plate.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim plate and secure using the retaining screws.
  10.  
  11. Push the radio control knobs onto the shafts.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable and enjoy the tunes.

1985 and Later
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. To access the temperature control cable, remove the glove box, then disconnect the temperature cable from the temperature door.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radio, heater and A/C control panel-to-dash fasteners.
  6.  
  7. Pull the panel from the dash, then disengage the A/C control vacuum and electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. Remove the radio and the A/C control knobs, then the trimplate.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio from the bracket.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the radio to the bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the trimplate, then install the radio and the A/C control knobs.
  4.  
  5. Engage the A/C control vacuum and electrical connectors, then install the panel to the dash.
  6.  
  7. Install and tighten the radio, heater and A/C control panel-to-dash fasteners.
  8.  
  9. Connect and adjust the temperature door cable, then install the glove box.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
