Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1964-67
  1. Make certain that the wiper motor is in the park position, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the washer hoses and electrical connectors.
  4.  
  5. Remove the three motor bolts. Pull the wiper motor assembly from the cowl opening and loosen the nuts retaining the drive rod ball stud to the crank arm.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Check the sealing gaskets at the motor, then make sure the motor is in the park position.
  2.  
  3. Hold the motor assembly just in front of the cowl opening and connect the drive rod ball stud to the crank arm, then install and tighten the nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install the motor assembly and secure using the motor bolts.
  6.  
  7. Engage the washer hoses and electrical connectors to the motor assembly.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

1968-70
  1. Make sure that the wiper motor is in the park position, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the washer hoses and electrical connectors.
  4.  
  5. Remove the plenum chamber grille or access cover. Remove the nut retaining the crank arm to the motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining screws or nuts and remove the motor. Do not allow the motor to hang by the drive link.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Check the sealing gaskets at the motor, then make sure the motor is in the park position.
  2.  
  3. Install the motor assembly and secure using the retaining screws or nuts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the crank arm, then install and tighten the retaining nut.
  6.  
  7. Install the plenum chamber grille or access cover.
  8.  
  9. Engage the washer hoses and electrical connectors to the motor assembly.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.

1971 and Later

Your car may be equipped with either a round motor or a rectangular motor assembly.

  1. Make sure that the wiper motor is in the park position, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, remove the screen or grille that covers the cowl area.
  4.  
  5. Disengage the wiring from the motor.
  6.  
  7. Reach through the cowl opening and loosen, but do not remove, the nuts which attach the transmission drive link to the motor crank arm. Then, disconnect the drive link from the crank arm.
  8.  

Some wiper motors will utilize lower retaining screws which are difficult or impossible to access without using an extension. Make sure all bolts are removed before attempting to remove the motor.

  1. Remove the three motor attaching bolts then remove the motor, guiding the crank arm through the hole.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Make sure the motor is in the park position.
  2.  
  3. Install the motor to the cowl while guiding the crank arm through the hole, then install and tighten the motor attaching bolts.
  4.  
  5. With the crank arm attached to the drive link, tighten the retaining nuts.
  6.  
  7. Engage the motor wiring.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, install the screen or grille to the cowl area.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
