Rear Speed Sensor Assembly

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

The rear wheel bearing and sensor is an integral assembly and must be replaced as a unit.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum.
  8.  
  9. Detach the rear sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts and nuts attaching the rear wheel bearing and speed sensor assembly to the backing plate.
  12.  

With the rear wheel bearing and speed sensor attaching bolts and nuts removed, the drum brake assembly is supported only by the brake line connection. To avoid bending or damage to the brake line, do not bump or exert force on the assembly.

  1. Remove the rear wheel bearing and speed sensor assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the rear wheel bearing and speed sensor assembly by aligning the bolt holes in the wheel bearing and speed sensor assembly, drum brake assembly and rear suspension bracket. Install the attaching bolts and nuts. Tighten to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).

  3. Attach the rear speed sensor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake drum.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  8.  
  9. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
