REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Vehicles Equipped with Manual Transaxles

WARNING
The master cylinder pushrod must be disconnected from the clutch pedal or permanent damage to the slave cylinder will occur.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the hush panel from inside the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.
  6.  
  7. Remove the transaxle assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the flywheel attaching bolts, then remove the flywheel from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the flywheel and attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts, alternately and evenly as follows:
    1. Except 2.3L engine: 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 2.3L engine: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) plus an additional 45° rotation.

  3. Install the pressure plate and clutch disc assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the transaxle assembly.
  6.  
  7. Connect the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal.
  8.  
  9. Check cruise control switch adjustment at the clutch pedal bracket.
  10.  
  11. Install the hush panel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  

Vehicles Equipped with Automatic Transaxles
  1. Remove the transaxle assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right splash shield.
  4.  
  5. Remove the flywheel attaching bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retainer.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flywheel.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Remove all thread adhesive from the holes.
  2.  
  3. Apply thread adhesive to all the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the flywheel and retainer and secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts as follows:
    1. 2.0L and 2.2L engines: 52-55 ft. lbs. (70-75 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 2.3L engines: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) plus an additional 45° rotation.

    5. 2.8L and 3.1L (VIN T) engines: 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
    6.  
    7. 3.1L (VIN M) engines: 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm).

  7. Install the transaxle assembly.
