REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1988-90 Vehicles
  1. Matchmark the location of the upper and lower door hinge strap.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the armrest support brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove the water deflector.
  8.  
  9. Detach all the electrical connections to the door electrical components.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rubber conduit from the door.
  12.  
  13. While the door is supported, remove the (4) nuts and (4) screws.
  14.  
  15. Remove the door with the aid of a helper.

To install:
  1. Pposition the door to the body with the aid of a helper and install the four nuts.
  2.  
  3. Check for proper alignment of the door to body and the lock to the striker. Loosen the nuts and align if necessary. Tighten the nuts and screws to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-28 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the rubber conduit.
  8.  
  9. Attach all the door electrical components.
  10.  
  11. Install the water deflector.
  12.  
  13. Install the armrest support brackets.
  14.  
  15. Install the trim panel.
  16.  

1991-96 Vehicles
  1. Mark the location of the upper and lower door hinge strap.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hanger plates which are riveted to the door inner panel (see trim panel removal in this section).
  6.  
  7. Remove the water deflector.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect all the electrical connections to the door electrical components.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rubber conduit from the door.
  12.  
  13. Remove the check link screw.
  14.  
  15. While the door is supported, remove the door side hinge to door nuts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the door with the aid of a helper.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Position the door to the body with the aid of a helper and install the four nuts.
  2.  
  3. Check for proper alignment of the door to body and the lock to the striker. Loosen the nuts and align if necessary. Tighten the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and the check link screw to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).

  1. Install the wiring harness.
  2.  
  3. Install the rubber conduit.
  4.  
  5. Connect all the door electrical components.
  6.  
  7. Install the water deflector.
  8.  
  9. Install the hanger plates.
  10.  
  11. Install the trim panel.
  12.  

ADJUSTMENT



The hinges are bolted to the door and to the body. The door side hinges have elongated holes which allow for some up and down and in and out adjustment by loosening the nuts. The nuts are tightened to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm). A floating cage plate inside the door also allows for adjustment. There is no fore and aft adjustment provision.
