Instrument Cluster Bezel

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1988-89 Vehicles

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left side sound insulator attaching screws and remove the insulator from the lower dash and cowl.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the 2 screws from the top of the trim cover, then remove the trim cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts from the upper part of the column and bolt(s) from the lower part of the column. Lower and support the column to prevent tension on the flex joint.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel attaching hardware. Pull the trim panel rearward.
  10.  
  11. Tag and detach the necessary electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Remove the trim panel from the vehicle.
  14.

To install:
  1. Position the instrument cluster trim panel close to the wiring harness, in order to attach the electrical connectors.
  2.  
  3. Install the cluster trim panel and attaching hardware.
  4.  
  5. Raise the steering wheel into position and install the bolt(s) at the bottom part of the column and 2 bolts at the top of the column.
  6.  
  7. Install the trim cover and 2 attaching screws.
  8.  
  9. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

1991-96 Vehicles

See Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bezel-to-instrument panel screws.
  4.  
  5. Carefully pull the bezel rearward to disengage the retaining clips.
  6.  
  7. Unplug the headlight and windshield wiper switch electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. If removing the switches, remove the screws attaching the switches to the bezel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the clips, as required.
  12.

To install:
  1. If removed, install the clips to the bezel.
  2.  
  3. If removed, install the headlight and windshield wiper switches to the bezel and install the attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the switch knobs.
  6.  
  7. Attach the headlight and windshield wiper switch electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. Position the bezel and press in to engage the retaining clips.
  10.  
  11. Install the instrument panel-to-bezel screws.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
