Instrument Cluster

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




WARNING
Whenever working on any electronic equipment, make sure to have a clean, static free environment in which to work. Always cover the work surface with a mat that is grounded and static free. Static electricity from walking across the floor or sliding across a car seat is enough to damage any equipment.

1988-90 Vehicles
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument cluster bezel/trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 4 screws attaching instrument cluster. There are 2 screws at the top and 2 at the bottom of the cluster.
  6.  
  7. Pull the cluster forward, then detach the electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument cluster from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Position the instrument cluster close to the wiring harness, in order to attach the harness. Ensure the cluster connectors plug in securely to the connectors in the cluster carrier.
  2.  
  3. Slide the instrument cluster into position and install the mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument cluster bezel/trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

1991-96 Vehicles

See Figure 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel trim/cluster bezel.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the instrument cluster-to-instrument panel attaching bolts/screws.
  6.  
  7. Rock the instrument cluster rearward and remove it from the vehicle. The electrical connector will release as the cluster is removed.

To install:
  1. Carefully, align the instrument cluster and press into proper position. The electrical connector will align and engage as the cluster is pushed into position.
  2.  
  3. Install the cluster retaining screws and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.4 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument cluster bezel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
