Throttle Body

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. If not already done, disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Partially drain the radiator enough to allow the coolant hoses at the throttle body to be removed.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the air cleaner duct from the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Detach the electrical connectors from the IAC valve and TP sensor.
  10.  
  11. Tag and disconnect the vacuum hoses from the throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Detach the throttle, cruise and transmission control cables from the throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the accelerator cable bracket attaching nut and bolt, then remove the bracket.

  1. Disconnect the power brake vacuum hose from the throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Remove the throttle body attaching bolt and stud.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the throttle body from the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the coolant lines and remove the throttle body and gasket from the manifold. Remove and discard the gasket.

To install:
  1. Reposition the throttle body next to the manifold and reconnect the coolant hoses.
  2.  
  3. Install a new mounting gasket and tighten the bolt and stud and tighten the bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the power brake vacuum hose at the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Attach the throttle, cruise and transmission control cables to the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Install the accelerator cable bracket attaching nut and bolt and tighten the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the bolt to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the vacuum hoses to the throttle body, as tagged during removal.
  12.  
  13. Attach the electrical connectors to the IAC valve and TPS.
  14.  
  15. Connect the air cleaner duct to the throttle body.
  16.  
  17. Refill the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. With the engine off, check to see that the accelerator pedal is free.
  22.  
  23. Reset the IAC pintle position as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine OFF) .
    2.  
    3. Ground the diagnostic test terminal for 5 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Remove the ground.
    6.  
    7. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 10 seconds.
    8.  
    9. Start the engine and check for proper idle information.
