Windshield Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left and right side wiper blade and arm assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air inlet screen/cowl panel.
  6.  
  7. For 1988-92 vehicles, loosen the 2 drive link adjusting screws, then remove the drive link from the motor crank arm.
  8.  
  9. Detach the wiper motor electrical connectors and/or washer hoses.
  10.  
  11. For 1993-96 vehicles, separate the transmission drive link socket from the crank arm ball of the wiper motor assembly using tool J 39232, or equivalent transmission separator.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiper motor mounting bolts/screws, then remove the wiper motor by guiding the crank arm through the hole.
  14.  
  15. If necessary, remove the crank arm from the motor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the gasket or seal from the wiper motor.
  18.

To install:
  1. Install the crank arm on the new wiper motor shaft and install the attaching nut.
  2.  
  3. Position the gasket on the wiper motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the wiper motor while guiding the crank arm through the hole.
  6.  
  7. Install the wiper motor to the chassis and install the attaching bolts/screws. Tighten the bolts/screws to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Attach the wiper motor electrical connectors and/or connect the washer hoses.
  10.  
  11. For 1988-92 vehicles, connect the wiper arm drive link to the crank arm. Tighten the drive link adjusting screws to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  12.  
  13. For 1993-96 vehicles, fasten the transmission drive link socket to the crank arm ball of the wiper motor assembly using tool J 39232 or equivalent. Make sure the socket is fully seated on the ball.
  14.  
  15. Install the top vent screen/cowl panel.
  16.  
  17. Install the left and right wiper arm and blade assemblies.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
