REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1984-89 Vehicles

See Figure 1

  1. Raise the hood, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the 2 screws attaching the armrest to the trim panel. Push the armrest inward to remove the plastic hooks on the armrest from the slot on the door trim panel.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, remove the armrest filler.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining screws, then remove the speaker grille.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, remove the manual lock knob.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the accessory trim plate screws. Note there is a hidden screw behind the door release handle.
  12.  
  13. Detach the electrical connectors from the hatch lid release switch, door lock courtesy light and, if removing the drivers side door panel, the wiper switch.
  14.

  1. Remove the accessory trim plate.
  2.  
  3. Remove the remote control plate and the courtesy lamp.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper molding an air outlet.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the door trim panel retaining screws, the pull the panel partially away from the door.
  8.  
  9. Detach the hatch lid release switch electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the door panel from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

1990-96 Vehicles

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the accessory/inside handle bezel, as follows:
  4.  
  5. Remove the courtesy lamp from the bezel by gently prying down on the top edge, about 1 / 2 in. (13mm) inboard of the corners and rotating the lamp downward and out.
    1. Remove the remote control lock knob from the rod by carefully prying it outward.
    2.  
    3. If removing the right door panel, remove the armrest filler panel by unfastening the screws retaining the armrest filler.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bezel screws. The right and left side bezels may have different numbers of screws.
    6.  
    7. Pull the inside handle outward, then reposition the bezel.
    8.  
    9. Detach the courtesy lamp harness from the wiring harness connector.
    10.  
    11. Unplug the electrical connector from the door lock switch.
    12.  
    13. Remove the bezel.
    14.

  1. If removing the left door panel, remove the armrest filler panel, as follows:
    1. Unfasten the screws from the armrest filler pull cup.
    2.  
    3. Remove the armrest filler by raising the rear edge and pulling towards the rear to clear the armrest filler clip on the forward edge.
    4.  
    5. Unplug the wiring harness connectors for the side window switch and outside rearview mirror switch.
    6.

  3. If removing the right side door panel, you must remove the window switch for access to the trim panel mounting retainer. Carefully pry the switch away from the trim panel, then detach the electrical connector.

  5. Unfasten the door trim panel retaining bolts and screws.
  6.

  1. Detach the rear hatch lid release switch electrical connector by pulling the bottom edge of the trim panel out, then reaching between the panel and the door to disconnect it.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel by pulling the panel out at the bottom, then up out of the door alignment slots.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  6.
