REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Engagement Switch

The engagement switch cannot be serviced. The complete turn signal lever must be replaced as an assembly.

EXCEPT MULTI-FUNCTION LEVER
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column lower cover and disengage the cruise control connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel and the lock plate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the turn signal retaining screw and remove the turn signal lever.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.  

MULTI-FUNCTION LEVER
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left-hand sound insulator panel.
  4.  
  5. Position the column with the shift lever in the low position and the turn signal in the right turn position. Keep tilt columns in the full up position.
  6.  
  7. Disengage the cruise control connector and attach a long piece of mechanic's wire to the end of the harness connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the multi-function switch by pulling it out of the detented retaining clip inside the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Pull harness out gently. Removing the protective plastic sheathing for the cruise control wires may aid in removal and installation.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the wires are routed under the upper support bracket to prevent pinching the wires.

Release Switch
VACUUM TYPE
  1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake switch and the retainer. Remove the switch by unscrewing by hand from the bracket .
  2.  

To install:
  1. Install the retainer. Reconnect the vacuum hose.
  2.  
  3. With the brake pedal depressed, insert switch into the retainer until it seats on the retainer.
  4.  
  5. Pull brake pedal fully rearward against pedal stop until no more clicks are heard.
  6.  

ELECTRIC TYPE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the switch.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Use a test light between the brown wire at the connector and ground. Adjust switch so that the test light goes out within 1 / 2 in. of brake pedal travel.
