For the engine to be properly timed, the lines on the top of the injection pump adapter and the flange of the injection pump must be aligned.
- The engine must be off for resetting the timing.
- Loosen the three pump retaining nuts with J-26987 on V8's or J-25304 on V6's, an injection pump intake manifold wrench, or its equivalent.
- Align the timing marks and torque the pump retaining nuts to 35 ft.lbs. (47 Nm)
The use of a3/4in. open end wrench on the boss at the front of the pump will aid in rotating the pump to align the marks.
- Adjust the throttle rod. (See Fuel Injection Pump Removal and Installation, Step 20).
