REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
- To replace the thermostat, drain the cooling system below the level of the thermostat and unfasten the two bolts holding the water neck in place.
- Remove the water neck and the thermostat will lift out.
- Clean the mating surfaces of both the water neck and the intake manifold.
- Use a new gasket when installing the thermostat. If only RTV sealant was used from the factory, use only RTV sealant during assembly.
The spring of the thermostat must be installed toward the engine.
- Install in reverse order
