GM Cutlass RWD 1970-1987 Repair Guide

Front disc brakes on all models are of the single piston floating-caliper type. This type of brake is constructed of a large single casting with the piston in the inboard section of the casting. The caliper assembly is mounted directly to the steering knuckle with two allen head bolts. The caliper is free to slide on the sleeves at the inboard ears and at the bolt at the outboard ears.

Some brake shoes contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.
