REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands. Remove the wheels and brake drum as described above.
  2.
  3. Clean all dirt away from around the brake line connection, and disconnect the brake line.
  4.
  5. The wheel cylinders are retained by two types of fasteners. One type uses a round retainer with locking clips, which attaches to the wheel cylinder on the back side of the brake backing plate. Use two awls to release the two locking clips. The other type simply uses two bolts, which screw into the wheel cylinder from the back side of the backing plate. Remove the wheel cylinder from the backing plate.
  6.

To install:
  1. Install the wheel cylinder onto the backing plate. Using a 1 1 / 8 in. socket and extension, press the locking clip onto the wheel cylinder. Torque the retaining bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) for the other type.
  2.
  3. Connect the brake pipe. Torque the connection to 100 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install brake shoes, drum, and wheel, and flush and bleed brakes.
  6.
