Door Glass and Regulator

1990 Vehicles

Front door glass
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel upper retainer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner belt sealing strip.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front run channel screws.
  8.  
  9. Pop the guide free from the run channel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the glass from the outboard side.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the front run channel with its screws finger-tight.
  2.  
  3. Lower glass into door. Guide onto the channel.
  4.  
  5. Install the guide to the channel.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the window:
  8.  
    1. Do not allow the window to come out of the run channel during this procedure.
    2.  
    3. Position the window in its full up position.
    4.  
    5. Grasp the window and move it rearward and upward into the seal to assure full engagement of the window to the run channel.
    6.  
    7. Install the screws.
    8.  
    9. Cycle the window up and down to check operation.
    10.  

  9. Install the inner belt sealing strip and retainer.
  10.  
  11. Check for proper operation.
  12.  
  13. Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
  14.  

Rear door glass
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Support the glass and remove the sash bolts.
  4.  
  5. Pop the guide free from the run channel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stationary vent assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the glass from the inboard side.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the glass from the inboard side.
  2.  
  3. Install the vent.
  4.  
  5. Install the guide into the run channel.
  6.  
  7. Install the sash bolts and adjust the glass:
  8.  
    1. Do not allow the window to come out of the run channel during this procedure.
    2.  
    3. Position the window in its full up position.
    4.  
    5. Grasp the window and move it rearward and upward into the seal to assure full engagement of the window to the run channel.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the sash nuts and channel bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Cycle the window up and down to check operation.
    10.  

  9. Check for proper operation.
  10.  
  11. Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
  12.  

Window regulator
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Punch out the center of the regulator retaining rivets, then drill out.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator guide and block assembly from the lower sash channel by positioning the window half-way down and pushing the regulator forward. Once removed, tape the window in the full up position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the regulator through the access hole.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the regulator and install the guide and block assembly to the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Use 1 / 4 inch rivets to attach to the door.
  4.  
  5. Check for proper operation.
  6.  
  7. Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
  8.

Windows
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inner and outer sealing or belt strips.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sash nuts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the window from the outboard side.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the window from the outboard side.
  2.  
  3. Install the seals or strips.
  4.  
  5. Adjust the window:
  6.  
    1. Do not allow the window to come out of the run channel during this procedure.
    2.  
    3. Position the window in its full up position.
    4.  
    5. Grasp the window and move it rearward and upward into the seal to assure full engagement of the window to the run channel.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the sash nuts and channel bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Cycle the window up and down to check operation.
    10.  

  7. Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
  8.  

Door module assembly
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector and speaker.
  2.  
  3. Tape the window in the full up position and remove the front run channel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the latch and rose buds from the panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lock rods from the latch assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining nuts and remove the module assembly.
  10.  
  11. Disassemble and replace parts as required.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Assemble the module assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install through the access hole in the door. Install the retaining nuts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lock rods to the latch assembly.
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical connectors to the latch and rose buds to the panel.
  8.  
  9. Adjust the window:
  10.  
  11. Do not allow the window to come out of the run channel during this procedure.
  12.  
    1. Position the window in its full up position.
    2.  
    3. Grasp the window and move it rearward and upward into the seal to assure full engagement of the window to the run channel.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the sash nuts and channel bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Cycle the window up and down to check operation.
    8.  

  13. Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
  14.
