Fig. Fig. 1 Six-way power seat adjuster assembly

The six-way power seat adjusters are actuated by three 12V, reversible permanent magnet motors with built in circuit breakers. The motors drive the front and rear vertical gearnuts and a horizontal actuator. When the adjusters are at their limit of travel, an overload relay provides stall torque so the motors are not overloaded. Each motor can be serviced as a separate unit.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Remove the adjuster assembly from the seat.
  6.
  7. Remove the feed wires from the motor.
  8.
  9. Remove the nuts securing the front of the motor support bracket-to-inboard adjuster. Partially withdraw the assembly from the adjuster and gearnut drives.
  10.
  11. Remove the drive cables from the motor. Completely disassemble the support bracket with the motors attached.
  12.
  13. Grind off the peened over ends of the grommet assembly securing the motor-to-support. Separate the motor from the support.
  14.

To install:

  1. Drill out the top end of the grommet assembly using a 3 / 16 inch drill bit.
  2.
  3. Install the grommet assembly-to-motor support bracket. Secure the motor with a 3 / 16 inch rivet.
  4.
  5. Install the drive cables.
  6.
  7. Install the motor-to-inboard adjuster.
  8.
  9. Connect the motor feed wires and negative battery cable.
  10.
  11. Install the adjuster assembly-to-seat bottom.
  12.
  13. Install the seat and check for proper operation.
