CAUTION
Brake shoes contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer-causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! The first step in brake repairs should be cleaning brake surfaces, using a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the car.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drum, shoes and springs as previously described.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake line from the wheel cylinder.
  8.  
  9. Remove the parking brake cable.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the backing plate.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the backing plate to axle.
  2.  
  3. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the parking brake cable.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel cylinder and brake line, following procedures given earlier.
  8.  
  9. Install the brake components, shoes, spring, etc.
  10.  
  11. Adjust and bleed the rear brakes.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the parking brake cables.
  14.
