Ignition Coil

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Internally Mounted Coil
  1. Disconnect and label the wires from cap.
  2.  
  3. Remove the distributor cap from the distributor.
  4.  
  5. On the distributor cap, remove the coil cover attaching screws and the cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ignition coil attaching screws and lift the coil from the cap.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Position the coil and secure it with the attaching screws. Be sure to install the carbon button and rubber disc first.
  2.  
  3. Install the coil cover and attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the distributor cap.
  6.  
  7. Connect the wires to the cap.
  8.  

Externally Mounted Coil

EXCEPT 3.8L TURBO
  1. Label and disconnect the wires from the coil.
  2.  
  3. Remove the ignition coil mounting bolts and the coil.
  4.  

To install:
  1. To install, position the coil into place and secure it with the mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the wires to the coil.
  4.  

3.8L TURBO
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Label and disconnect the spark plug wires from the coils.
  4.  
  5. Remove the six Torx® screws securing the coil to the module.
  6.  
  7. Tilt the coil assembly back and disconnect the coil-to-module connectors. Be sure to label these for correct installation.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the coil assembly and torque the Torx® screws to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the spark plugs wires and the negative battery cable. Check for proper operation.
