REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1970-72 Vehicles

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped, remove the choke knob.
  2.  
  3. Remove the windshield wiper knob, the light switch rod, and the bezel. If equipped, disconnect and plug the oil pressure line to the gauge.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the chassis wiring harness which is located at the rear of the instrument panel. Protect the mast jacket with a rag or other covering so that it doesn't become scratched.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cluster retaining screws and remove the cluster.
  8.  
  9. To install the cluster, reverse the removal procedure.

1973-76 Vehicles

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column cover and the cluster bezel.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, remove the knob from the clock.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lens retaining screws and the lens.
  8.  
  9. Remove the transmission gear indicator (PRNDL) and the cluster retainer.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the speedometer cable by depressing the spring clip and pulling the cable out of the speedometer head. Disconnect and plug the oil pressure line, if so equipped.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the cluster wiring harness and remove the cluster retaining screws and pull out the cluster.
  14.  
  15. To install the cluster, reverse the removal procedure.

1977-79 Vehicles

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the headlamp switch control knob and radio control knobs.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the eight screws, then remove instrument bezel. Remove the steering column cover.
  6.  
  7. Reach under the dash, depress the speedometer cable tang, and remove the cable.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, disconnect the oil pressure gauge line from the fitting in the engine compartment.
  10.  
  11. Pull the instrument cluster out just far enough to disconnect line from oil pressure gauge.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cluster.
  14.  
  15. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
