All models use conventional hypoid axles. Half ton models use semi-floating axles, while 3 / 4 and 1 ton models use full floating axles. Semi-floating axles use one bearing at the end of the axle housing next to the wheel hub. These bearings do not require adjustment. Full floating axles use two bearings, and must be adjusted (in much the same manner as front wheel bearings) if removed or replaced. Full floating axle housings carry the entire weight of the chassis and cargo, permitting the axle shafts to be removed without disturbing the differential.
